Quick take: fast, flowy singletrack in the middle of Charlotte!
Renaissance Park ("Renny") is a 135-acre MTB spot at 1536 Tyvola Road with punchy climbs, roots, berms, and lap-friendly loops you can ride in 30–45 minutes!
If you've been searching for mountain bike trails near me that won't eat your entire afternoon, Renny is a go-to!

The Renny Rundown
Renaissance Park isn't messing around. Located at 1536 Tyvola Road, this place packs SERIOUS punch into a surprisingly tight package.
Fast. Flowy. Technical when you want it. Smooth when you don't.
The singletrack here is classic Charlotte woods: roots, small drops, rollers, and tight turns—engaging without being extreme!
The terrain is hilly, so expect some work... but the flow is the point! Solid berms, logical transitions, and enough speed to keep it fun!
Why We're Obsessed
Here's the thing about Renny: it's ridiculously convenient!
Lunch break ride? Done. ✅
After-work anger management session? Absolutely. ✅
Quick morning lap before the chaos begins? You got it. ✅
The trail system here is tight enough that you can knock out a solid ride in 30-45 minutes if you're moving. But it's also interesting enough that you can loop it two or three times and still find new lines, new challenges, and new reasons to love it.
And because it's RIGHT in Charlotte, you're never far from civilization. Need to grab a post-ride burrito? There's probably one within five minutes. Forgot your pump? We're not far if you need a hand!
What to Expect on the Trail
Let's talk specifics, because "fast and flowy" only tells you so much.
The Good Stuff:
- Moderate technical features (roots, small drops, tight turns)
- Rolling terrain that rewards momentum
- Enough elevation change to feel like a workout
- Well-maintained trails (shoutout to the local trail crew!)
- Tree cover keeps things shady in summer
The Heads-Up:
- It gets crowded during peak times (early mornings and after 5pm on weekdays)
- Multi-use trail, so you'll share with hikers and trail runners
- Can get muddy after rain, respect the trails and stay off if they're soupy
- Some sections are tight and twisty, so keep your speed in check around blind corners
The trail is moderately wooded, so you get the "in the forest" vibe without being totally isolated. Bonus: a few spots give you skyline peeks through the trees. Urban mountain biking, done right!
Who Should Ride Renny?
Honestly? Most riders!
If you're a beginner with some basic trail experience under your belt, Renny is a GREAT next step. The features are manageable, the flow is forgiving, and you can always session the easier sections until you're ready to tackle the spicier bits.
Intermediate riders will find this place absolutely perfect. It's technical enough to keep you honest but not so gnarly that you're walking your bike. You can really open it up and work on your speed, line choice, and flow.
Advanced riders might find Renny a bit tame for an all-day epic, but as a quick after-work shred or a skill-maintenance loop? It's money. Plus, you can always make it harder by taking the challenging lines and pushing your speed.
The Renny Community Vibe
One of the best parts about Renaissance Park is the CREW that rides there.
You'll find everyone from roadies cross-training to hardcore trail dogs to folks who just discovered mountain biking last month. It's a genuinely welcoming spot, and people are usually stoked to chat about lines, bike setups, or where to grab food afterward.
There's also a strong local trail advocacy presence here. These folks work HARD to keep the trails in great shape, and they organize regular trail days. If you love Renny, consider joining a trail maintenance session. It's a great way to give back and meet like-minded riders!
Gear Check: What to Bring
For a quick Renny session, you don't need to pack like you're heading into the backcountry. But here's what we recommend:
The Essentials:
- Your bike (duh) 🚲
- Helmet (ALWAYS)
- Water bottle or hydration pack
- Basic tools and a spare tube
- Your phone (for emergencies and Strava bragging rights)
The Nice-to-Haves:
- Knee pads if you're feeling sketchy
- Sunscreen (even in tree cover, you'll catch rays)
- A small first-aid kit
- Bug spray in summer (North Carolina mosquitoes are NO JOKE)
If your bike is making weird noises or your brakes feel spongy, swing by our shop! We specialize in bicycle repair and can get you dialed in before you hit the trail!
Beyond the Bike Trails
Renny isn't just about mountain biking. If you're bringing non-riding friends or family, there's TONS to do:
- 18-hole disc golf course (championship level, established in 1998!)
- Dog park for your four-legged trail buddy
- Skate park for the board crowd
- Sand volleyball courts
- Walking and hiking trails
- Playgrounds for the kiddos
Basically, Renaissance Park is a full-on recreation hub. You can ride while your partner throws discs and your dog makes new friends. Everyone wins!
Post-Ride Plans
After you've crushed some laps at Renny, you've got options.
Charlotte has an incredible food scene, and you're not far from South End, NoDa, or Plaza Midwood, all neighborhoods packed with breweries, coffee shops, and restaurants.
Our move? Hit the trail, grab a post-ride drink or coffee, and recap the best corners and features with your crew!
E-Bike Friendly?
We get this question A LOT: "Can I ride my e-bike at Renny?"
The official word from Mecklenburg County is that e-bikes are allowed on paved trails but NOT on natural surface singletrack. So if you're rolling an e-bike, stick to the paved paths at Renaissance Park.
If you're thinking about getting into the e-bike game for other riding adventures (commuting, gravel, road cruising), we're your spot! We've got a solid selection—come by and test ride!
Pro Tips for Your First Renny Ride
- Go early or go late. Weekday mornings before 8am or after 7pm are WAY less crowded.
- Ride counterclockwise. It's the preferred direction and flows better.
- Call your passes. "On your left!" works wonders for keeping everyone happy and safe.
- Session the features. Found a fun drop or berm? Hit it a few times! That's what Renny is FOR.
- Check trail conditions. If it rained recently, give the trails a day to dry out.
- Bring cash for parking if needed (though parking is generally free).
- Respect the multi-use vibe. Hikers and runners have just as much right to be there as we do!
