Mazeppa Park is a berm-heavy, flowy Mooresville trail system with about 5–6 miles of singletrack—perfect for practicing cornering and carrying speed!
Located at 645 Mazeppa Road (near the soccer complexes), it’s maintained by the Town of Mooresville Parks & Rec and the Tarheel Trailblazers crew, so conditions are usually solid!
The Basics: What You Need to Know
Distance: ~5-6 miles of singletrack (depending on which loops you hit)
Difficulty: Beginner to intermediate, with technical features for advanced riders who want to spice things up
Surface: Natural dirt, mostly smooth with some rock gardens and roots
Shade: Mostly shaded through young-growth forest (your sunburned arms will thank you)
Parking: Main lot off Mazeppa Road. Trailhead kiosk is in the southeast corner.
Multi-use: You'll see hikers and trail runners, so keep your head up and your bell handy!

Trail Breakdown: What's Out There?
Mazeppa isn't just one big loop, it's a whole network of interconnected trails that let you customize your ride. Here's the crew:
GoPro Loop (3.3 miles, intermediate): The main event. Most of the berms live here, plus the fast, flowy turns!
Mazeppa Tech (0.3 miles, difficult): Short but spicy. Rock gardens, tighter lines, and technical features that'll challenge your bike handling. There are alternate routes around everything, so don't stress if you're not feeling it.
Ridgeline Connector (0.4 miles): Does exactly what it says, connects sections and gives you a little elevation variety.
Greenway Loop (1.0 mile): A mellow, family-friendly option if you're bringing the kiddos or just want an easy spin.
Start at the kiosk in the main parking lot and follow the signs. The trail markings are solid!
Why Mazeppa Rocks (Besides All the Berms)
It's a Cornering Clinic
Real talk: if you want to get better at cornering, Mazeppa is your classroom. The berms here are PERFECTLY shaped for practicing body position, weight distribution, and that sweet, sweet flow state where you're just railing turns like you were born to do it.
Lean the bike. Stay loose. Look through the corner. Repeat!

It's Fast (Like, Really Fast)
This isn't a technical crawl through boulder gardens. Mazeppa is about SPEED. The trail rewards momentum, so if you're testing out a new suspension setup, tweaking your tire pressure, or just trying to figure out how fast you can actually go on a hardtail... this is the spot.
Pro tip: Air down your tires a few PSI if you want maximum grip on those berms. You'll feel the difference.
Family-Friendly Vibes
Located right next to the soccer fields, Mazeppa has that "bring the whole crew" energy. The beginner-friendly sections mean you can introduce friends or family to mountain biking without terrifying them on lap one.
Plus, there are restrooms and water refill stations near the soccer complex. Hydration is non-negotiable, folks!
Well-Maintained and Rideable Year-Round
The Tarheel Trailblazers do an incredible job keeping Mazeppa in top shape. Even after rain, the trail drains well and doesn't turn into a mud pit (though you should still avoid riding on soaking wet trails: trail etiquette 101).
You can hit this place almost any day of the year and find it in prime condition.

Tips from the Shop Crew
We've ridden Mazeppa... a lot. Here's what we've learned:
Warm Up First: The flow here will tempt you to pin it right away. Don't. Give yourself a lap to get loose and read the trail. Your knees will thank you.
Experiment with Lines: Most berms have multiple entry and exit options. Try different lines to find what feels fastest (or most fun: sometimes they're not the same thing).
Bring a Friend: Mazeppa is WAY more fun with a riding buddy. Plus, you can take turns leading and critique each other's cornering form.
Check Your Suspension: If your fork or shock is feeling harsh or too soft, this trail will expose it FAST. Rolling speed and berm transitions require dialed suspension. More on that in a sec...
Don't Skip Mazeppa Tech: Even if you're not ready to clean every feature, session it for 10 minutes. Working on technical skills in a low-stakes environment (with bail-out routes!) builds confidence.
Before You Go: Pack List

- Bug spray (summer months can get gnarly)

Suspension Check? We Got You.
Here's the thing: Mazeppa will absolutely expose any issues with your suspension setup.
Too soft? You'll blow through your travel and feel every bump.
Too stiff? You'll lose traction in corners and get bounced around on the fast sections.
Not sure where you're at? Bring your bike by Spirited Cyclist for a suspension check before you send it at Mazeppa.
We'll dial in your sag, rebound, and compression settings so you're maximizing both speed and control. Whether you're on a hardtail, a short-travel XC rig, or a full enduro sled, we'll make sure your setup matches the trail (and your riding style).
Book a service appointment online at spiritedcyclist.com or swing by the shop. We're located right here in the Lake Norman area, so you're probably riding past us on your way to the trails anyway!
