Fisher Farm: Davidson's Technical Gem

Author: Shop Crew

Fisher Farm Park in Davidson is a tight, technical mountain bike spot close to home. Old-school riding. Tight switchbacks. Gnarly roots. Plenty of rocks. No fluff!

This 200-acre gem at 21215 Shearer Rd keeps local riders coming back because it’s REAL.

And yep... it’s less than 15 minutes from our Huntersville and Davidson shops. Perfect for those “I’ve got two hours before dinner” sessions!

Getting There (It's Easier Than You Think)

Fisher Farm sits about 3 miles from downtown Davidson, tucked off Shearer Road. If you're coming from I-77 North, take exit 30, hang a right, and follow Main Street through Davidson. You'll wind through Davidson/Concord Road and Grey Road until you hit Shearer, the park entrance is about 1.5 miles down on your right.

Look for the gravel driveway with field parking. There's a trail map posted in the parking lot (snap a pic with your phone, trust us), porta-potties, and picnic tables. No fancy trailhead building here... just dirt and a proper ride!

Fair warning: There are NO drinking fountains, so pack your hydration pack or cage a couple bottles before you roll out.

The Trail Breakdown: Choose Your Own Adventure

Fisher Farm's beauty is in its variety. You've got roughly 5.3 miles of trail when you string together all the optional loops, but the system is designed so you can session whatever skill level you're feeling that day.

Green Loop: The Warm-Up

New to mountain biking? Or just warming up the legs? Start here!

The beginner loop is well-marked and starts right near the parking area. Mellow for first-timers, but still a little spicy (a root here, a small roller there). You’ll also find the paved connection to the West Branch Greenway if your ride buddy wants smooth surfaces.

Blue Trails: Flow Meets Roots

The intermediate loops are where Fisher Farm starts showing its teeth (in a good way).

You're looking at moderate technical difficulty with plenty of roots, bumps, and flow sections that reward momentum. These trails branch off the main loop and give you a taste of what makes Carolina riding special, natural terrain that MAKES you a better rider.

If you can clean the blue trails at Fisher Farm, you're officially ready for bigger adventures like Pisgah or Paris Mountain.

Pro tip: Stay loose on the bike and let it move underneath you. Those roots aren't going anywhere, so you've got to roll WITH them!

Black Diamond Loops: The Technical Bits

The advanced sections at Fisher Farm, especially the loops accessible near the Allison Farm Access Road by the powerlines, are pure technical playground. We're talking:

  • Sharp switchbacks that'll test your cornering skills
  • Technical climbs where momentum dies fast if you pick the wrong line
  • Rock gardens and root sections that demand focus

This isn't jump-line, flow-trail stuff. It's old-school technical riding that rewards patience, line choice, and bike handling. If you blow a corner or dab a foot, no big deal, session it again and dial it in!

The black diamond loops are short but intense. Solid workout without huge mileage.

The Allison Woods Connection: Add Mileage

Fisher Farm connects to Allison Woods Greenway if you want to extend your ride!

Head toward the powerline area and you'll find the trail access that links the two systems. Allison Woods adds some extra flow and a different flavor to your session, perfect if you've crushed Fisher Farm and still have gas in the tank.

The combo ride clocks in around 7-8 miles depending on which loops you hit. Solid weeknight ride... or a quick Saturday lap before coffee!

What to Ride: Gear Recommendations from the Shop Crew

Fisher Farm is technical enough that your bike choice MATTERS. You can ride a hardtail here (and plenty of folks do), but those roots and rocks will beat you up fast.

Full-Suspension: The Comfort Pick

If you want to float through the chunder and actually enjoy the ride, a trail bike with 120-140mm of travel is your best friend. The Specialized Stumpjumper is an absolute weapon here, it eats roots for breakfast and still climbs like a goat.

Full-suspension takes the edge off the technical sections and lets you ride faster with more confidence. If Fisher Farm is your regular spot, this is the move.

XC Bike: The Snappy Option

Got a race-oriented XC rig like the Specialized Epic? You can SHRED Fisher Farm on less travel if you've got the skills!

The tight, twisty nature of these trails actually rewards a lighter, snappier bike. You'll feel every root and rock, but you'll also rail those switchbacks and accelerate out of corners like a rocket.

Just make sure your tire pressure is dialed (we recommend 25-28 PSI for most riders) and your suspension is tuned for the terrain.

Not sure what setup is right for you? Swing by Spirited Cyclist in Huntersville or Davidson and let’s talk suspension tuning (and tires... always tires).

Pro Tips for Riding Fisher Farm

1. Wear a Helmet (Seriously)

Those roots and rocks don't care about your ego. Protect your brain!

2. Bring Spare Tubes

Fisher Farm has a sneaky way of finding pinch flats. We’ve seen it a hundred times... sharp root, bad angle, psssssss.

Don't be that rider. Grab a couple tubes, a pump, and a multi-tool before you head out. (We stock 'em at both locations if you need a last-minute restock!)

3. Session the Tough Sections

Can’t clean that gnarly switchback? Cool. Loop back and try it again. Fisher Farm is short enough that sessioning features just makes sense.

4. Respect Other Trail Users

You'll share Fisher Farm with hikers and trail runners. Give a friendly "On your left!" as you approach and everybody wins. Good trail karma matters!

5. Check the Weather

These trails can get MUDDY after rain. If it's been dumping for days, consider letting the trails dry out or hit a paved option instead. We all want to keep Fisher Farm rideable for the long haul!

Why Fisher Farm Matters to the Local MTB Scene

Not every great trail needs a 3-hour drive into the mountains.

Fisher Farm is the kind of spot that builds SKILLS and COMMUNITY. It's where you go after work to blow off steam. It's where you bring a friend who's never ridden singletrack before. It's where you practice cornering technique so you're ready for bigger adventures.

And because it's so close to Huntersville and Davidson, it's become a regular meeting spot for local riders. You'll see familiar faces, make new friends, and probably get talked into trying that one black diamond loop you've been eyeing.

That's what local trails are all about!
