The fastest way to turn your "little ripper" into a confident, skilled rider isn't through training wheels or pushing them down a grassy hill... it’s all about the STACYC! These electric stability cycles are the absolute bridge between a balance bike and a motorcycle (or a high-end mountain bike). We’ve seen it happen a hundred times at our Davidson shop: a kid walks in hesitant and walks out ready to conquer the backyard.
Right now, we have both the Stacyc 12 eDrive and the Stacyc 16 E Brushless in stock and ready to roll. If you’re looking for pure joy wrapped in a developmental powerhouse, this is it.
The Training Wheel Trap (And How to Escape It)
Let’s be honest for a second... training wheels are kind of the worst. They teach kids to lean the wrong way in corners and give a false sense of stability that vanishes the second you take them off. It’s frustrating for the kid and a workout for the parents' lower back.
Stacyc flips the script. By removing the pedals and adding a manageable electric motor, kids focus on the one skill that actually matters: BALANCE.
When a kid can put their feet down at any moment, their anxiety levels drop to zero. They aren't worried about falling; they’re worried about how much FUN they’re having. That shift in mindset is where the real learning begins!
Building Motor Skills One Twist at a Time
It’s not just about going fast (though the kids definitely love that part). Riding a Stacyc develops high-level motor skills and hand-eye coordination much faster than a traditional bike.
Think about it... your child is learning to:
- Modulate a Throttle: Understanding that a tiny twist equals a tiny bit of power.
- Hand Braking: No more "coaster brakes" that lock up and cause skids. They learn real braking feel early on.
- Body Positioning: Because there are no pedals, kids learn to stand on the footrests, shift their weight, and use their body to navigate obstacles.
These are the EXACT same skills they’ll need when they eventually move up to a Specialized Stumpjumper or even a dirt bike.

Confidence: The Secret Sauce
Confidence is the most important thing a child can have on two wheels. A kid who is scared won’t experiment. A kid who feels in control will push their limits (safely, of course!).
The lightweight design of these bikes is a TOTAL game-changer. The Stacyc 16eDrive weighs only 19 pounds. Compare that to a heavy, department store kids' bike that might weigh as much as the child! Because the bike is light, the child is the boss of the bike, not the other way around. They can pick it up if it tips over, maneuver it through tight turns, and feel completely in charge.
Why Stacyc is Perfect for the Backyard
You don’t need a specialized track or a massive park to get the most out of these. The "Pure Joy" we talk about usually happens right in the driveway or the backyard!
Because the motors are electric, they are QUIET. Your neighbors won't even know your kid is out there doing laps. No gas, no oil, no hot exhaust pipes to worry about... just clean, battery-powered fun.
Imagine your kid spending hours outside, building their own "track" in the grass, and actually getting better at a physical skill while you relax on the porch. It’s the ultimate win-win!
The Models: 12 vs 16
Which one is right for your grom? It mostly comes down to height and age, but here’s the quick breakdown of what we have in the shop right now:
- Stacyc 12 eDrive: Perfect for the 3 to 5-year-old crowd. If your child has a 12-18” inseam, this is the winner. It has 12-inch wheels and is the perfect entry point for kids who are just starting their two-wheeled journey.
- Stacyc 16 E Brushless: This one is for the 5 to 7-year-olds (or slightly taller 4-year-olds) with an 18-24” inseam. It features a high-output brushless motor that has a bit more "pep" for kids who have mastered the basics.
Both models come with three power modes:
- Training Mode: Tops out around 5 mph. Perfect for the first day.
- Standard Mode: Around 7.5 mph. This is where most kids live!
- Advanced Mode: Up to 11 mph for the 16-inch model. This is for the little rippers who are ready to fly.

Safety First (and Always)
We know what you’re thinking... "My kid on an electric bike? Is that safe?"
YES. Stacyc was designed by parents who ride. The power delivery is smooth, not jerky. The low seat height means "feet down" is the default safety net. And because you can lock the power modes, you stay in control of how fast they go until you’re 100% sure they’re ready for more.
Of course, we ALWAYS recommend a good helmet and some sturdy shoes. If you're looking for gear for the older kids or yourself, check out our selection of Five Ten Freerider shoes for maximum grip!
Why Buy from Spirited Cyclist in Davidson?
Sure, you could try to order something online, but why deal with the headache of assembly and "mystery" tech support? When you buy your Stacyc from us, we handle the build. We make sure the brakes are dialed, the chain is tensioned perfectly, and the battery is ready to rip.
Plus, we’re here for the long haul! As your kid gets faster and harder on the equipment, things might need a little tune-up. Whether it's a tire change or a check-up, our pro mechanics have you covered.
If you ever run into an issue or just want to make sure the bike is in top shape for the season, schedule a service appointment and bring it into us to do the work! We love seeing these bikes come back in with a little backyard mud on them: it means they’re being used right!

Start the Journey Today
There is nothing quite like the look on a kid’s face when they realize they can balance on their own. It’s a moment of pure independence and PRIDE.
That confidence doesn't just stay on the bike, either. It carries over into everything they do. Learning that they can master a difficult skill through practice and play is one of the best lessons a child can learn.
Stop by our Davidson shop and let your little one see these bikes in person. We’ll help you find the right size, get the helmet fitted perfectly, and get you out the door and toward the best backyard summer ever!
Looking for other gear or maybe an e-bike for yourself so you can keep up? You can always search our full inventory online before you head in!
See you at the shop!
