The Specialized Turbo Vado SL is the bike for riders who like riding -- and who want a smart way to ride further, ride more often, and arrive without showing up sweaty. SL stands for Super Light. Where a full-power Turbo Vado weighs 60+ pounds and feels like an electric scooter, the Vado SL weighs in around 33-37 pounds depending on build. It feels like a normal bike. Just one with a tailwind whenever you want one.
The SL 1.2 motor is half the power of a full Turbo motor, which is exactly the point. You're not racing off the line at every stoplight -- you're getting smooth, intuitive assistance that fills in your effort on hills, headwinds, and at the end of a long day. The integrated battery hides inside the down tube. With the optional Range Extender (a slim battery that mounts in a water bottle cage), you can stretch to roughly 80 miles per charge.
It's an ebike that doesn't look like an ebike, doesn't ride like an ebike, and doesn't ask you to give up the parts of cycling you actually enjoy. That's why we sell more of them than any other commuter bike in the shop.

How many Vado SL bikes do you have in stock?
Two on the floor right now: both are Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5.0 ST EQ Gen 2 (the top-spec Step-Through Equipped build) in Dove Grey / Cool Grey, one in size Large and one in size Medium. Both come with integrated rack, fenders, and lights from the factory.
What is the difference between the Vado SL and the full-power Turbo Vado?
The SL ("Super Light") is roughly half the weight of the standard Vado. Smaller motor (Specialized SL 1.2), smaller battery, lighter frame. It feels and rides like a normal bike -- but with a tailwind when you want one. The standard Vado has more torque and longer base range but weighs significantly more. SL is the better pick for riders who want an ebike that doesn't feel like an ebike.
What's the range?
Up to about 40 miles on the integrated battery alone. Up to about 80 miles with the optional Range Extender (a slim battery that mounts in your water bottle cage). Actual range depends on assist level, terrain, rider weight, and tire pressure.
Can I ride it with the motor off?
Yes. The Vado SL weighs around 33-37 pounds depending on build -- light enough to ride comfortably without assist. Many riders use the motor only on hills, headwinds, or when they want to arrive without sweating.
Does it have a rack and fenders?
Some builds (the "EQ" trim) ship with rack, fenders, and integrated lights from the factory. Other builds let you customize. We carry compatible racks, fenders, and lights at the shop if you want to add them after the fact.
Is it good for greenway riding?
Yes -- one of the best places to ride a Vado SL is on greenways. Smooth motor delivery, upright riding position, hydraulic disc brakes, and tires sized for paved and gentle off-road work. Davidson Greenway, Carolina Thread Trail connections, Mountain Island Lake area all work well.
Do you take trade-ins?
Yes. Bring your current bike (any type) in for an appraisal. The credit applies toward a Vado SL purchase.
