What it is

One bike. Every road race scenario.

The Tarmac SL8 is the bike that ended the climbing-vs-aero compromise. Specialized's eighth-generation Tarmac platform combines the aerodynamic performance of a dedicated aero bike, the climbing weight of a pure climber, and the all-day road geometry that's anchored their pro team success for over a decade. It's the only bike most road riders will ever need -- whether that's racing crits, hammering club rides, or putting in 100-mile weekends.

For 2024 and 2025, the SL8 has been the bike on the top step of multiple grand-tour podiums. The frame is built from Specialized's FACT 12r carbon, weighs in around 685 grams for the top-spec S-Works version, and has been wind-tunnel tuned across every tube shape to make the same watt-of-power go further. If you're upgrading from a previous Tarmac, coming back to road from gravel, or stepping up from an entry-level race bike, this is the platform that delivers.

Who it's for

Built for serious road riders.

The Tarmac SL8 isn't an entry-level bike. It's the bike for riders who've decided road cycling is a real part of their life -- and who want one bike that handles everything road has to offer.

  • Crit, road race, and gran fondo racers who need an aero advantage
  • Club riders who hammer Saturday group rides and want a bike that can hang
  • Long-course athletes building base miles outside of triathlon season
  • Climbers who want lightweight performance without giving up sprint speed
  • Anyone upgrading from a Tarmac SL6 or SL7 looking for the next generational leap
  • Riders coming back to road after years on gravel or mountain bikes
Why ride one around Lake Norman

This is road bike country.

Davidson and the greater Lake Norman area are some of the best road riding in the Southeast. Rolling roads, a year-round riding season, a deep group-ride culture out of Charlotte, and quick access to the climbs of the Blue Ridge when you want to head west for a weekend.

The Tarmac SL8 is the bike that lets you ride all of it. Saturday hammer rides up Beatties Ford and around the lake. Sunday endurance miles through Iredell County backroads. Weekend trips to climb Beech Mountain, Mount Mitchell, or the gaps around Brevard. Whatever surface you want to ride next, the SL8 covers it -- and gets you home with more in the tank.

Local race calendar is strong year-round: Tour de Lake Norman, regional crits, gran fondos, charity rides, masters racing. Whether you're at the pointy end of the field or back in the cap, you'll see this bike under more wheels than any other road platform in the area.

Common questions

Road riders ask us this.

Which Tarmac SL8 builds do you have in stock?

Inventory moves -- call the shop or stop by to confirm exact builds, sizes, and colors on the floor today. We stock multiple build levels (Sport, Comp, Expert, Pro, S-Works) across the size run when available.

What's different between the SL8 and the older SL7?

The SL8 is a ground-up redesign. Lighter frame, more aero (the SL7 wasn't a dedicated aero bike, the SL8 essentially merges Tarmac + Venge), refined geometry, and a fully integrated cockpit. If you're on an SL7 or earlier, the SL8 is a real generational upgrade -- not just a refresh.

Can I get fitted at the shop?

Yes. We offer Retul bike fitting on site with road-specific protocols (saddle height + setback, reach + drop, cleat position, hip angle, shoulder roll). For a bike at this level, the fit is the most important purchase decision. Most Tarmac buyers schedule a fit at purchase. Call to book.

Do you take trade-ins?

Yes. Bring your current road bike in for an appraisal during your visit. Older Tarmacs, other premium road frames, even quality mountain or gravel bikes can be appraised. The credit applies toward your SL8 purchase.

Is financing available?

Yes, for qualified buyers. Stop by the shop and we'll walk through current financing partners and rates.

Do you service Shimano Di2 and SRAM AXS?

Yes -- factory-trained on both. Whether your bike needs firmware updates, derailleur hangers, brake bleeds, or full overhauls, our service department handles modern electronic groupsets and hydraulic systems in-house.

Can I really test ride this bike?

Yes. We set up test rides with a quick fit so you're not riding the wrong size, then send you out on a local loop. Call ahead to schedule -- it makes the experience way better than walking in cold.
